Dalmore Bay

(Bagh Dhail Mor, Bàgh Dhail Mòr)

A small sandy bay on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Dalmore Bay (Gael: Bàgh Dhail Mòr) lies to the northwest of Dalmore and 1½ miles (2.5 km) north northeast of Carloway. Scenes for the BBC children's television series Katie Morag were filmed here in 2013. The bay came to national prominence in 2016 when the 17,000-tonne Transocean Winner drilling rig ran aground on rocks at the western end of the bay when its tow-lines snapped in heavy seas while is was being moved from Norway to Malta. The rig was refloated after two weeks and removed for repair.
