Stenton

A peripheral residential district of Glenrothes in Fife, Stenton lies between Finglassie and Bankhead West industrial estate, 1¼ miles (2 km) south of the town centre. The Lochty Burn lies to the south. The district takes its name from a small fermtoun (known as Stenton or Over Stenton) located a half-mile (1 km) to the west northwest. This is shown on the First Edition of the Ordnance Survey map of 1856 and still exists. Following the same naming scheme that was used in the neighbouring district of Pitteuchar to the north, the streets are named after Scottish castles (Balmanno, Balmoral, Brodie, Crathes, Drum, Dunrobin, Fernie, Floors, Fyvie, Hatton, Hermitage, Kellie, Mar, Melville, Mey, Rowallan, Ruthven, Sorn, Tarvit, Urquhart). Facilities include the Stenton Jubilee Community Centre, while Stenton Pond lies within a strip of woodland to the south.
