The highest summit in the Lomond Hills, West Lomond rises to 522m (1713 feet) 3 miles (5 km) south of Strathmiglo and 4 miles (6.5 km) west of Falkland. Its rounded top forms the remains of a volcanic plug dating from the Carboniferous period and its summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey primary triangulation pillar established in 1936.
