Balbithan Island

A substantial and low-lying riverine island in E Aberdeenshire, Balbithan Island lies within a loop of the River Don a half-mile (0.8 km) northeast of Kintore. It extends to 17.75 ha (43.9 acres). The western channel has reduced in size over the last century and is now little more than a metre (3 feet) in width over much of its length. It is used for agriculture and accessed by a small bridge in the southwest.
