Ben Vorlich

A mountain located between Loch Sloy and the head of Loch Lomond in Argyll and Bute, Ben Vorlich is the most northerly of the Arrochar Alps and qualifies as a Munro. Rising to a height of 943m (3094 feet), Ben Vorlich has a crescent shape with a central spur running east from the summit to the Little Hills. A secondary summit, lying around 200m (650 feet) to the south southeast of the first, reaches 941m (3087 feet) and is marked by an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar. Its eastern flank, above the Loch, has two corries; Coire na Baintighearna and Coire Creagach. Its name derives from the Gaelic for "hill of the bay". A 2-mile (3-km) tunnel carries water beneath the southern section of the mountain as part of the Sloy-Awe Hydro-Electric Power Scheme, emerging as four immense steel pipes above Inveruglas. There is another Ben Vorlich 21 miles (34 km) to the east.
