A significant bay on the southeast coast of the island of Hirta (St. Kilda), located 41 miles (66 km) west northwest of North Uist, in the Western Isles, Village Bay (Gael: Bagh a' Bhaile) is also known as Loch Hirta (Gael: Loch Hiort). This was the location of the island's only settlement, Village or Am Baile, now without permanent residents, and today the St. Kilda Military Base, a pier, landing ramp and a helicopter landing pad.
