Loch Eport

(Loch Euphort, Loch Euphoirt)

A sea-loch which penetrates deeply from the east coast of North Uist, Loch Eport (Gael: Loch Euphort or Loch Euphoirt) lies 3 miles (5 km) south of Lochmaddy. From a narrow mouth the loch extends westwards for 8 miles (13 km). It contains several small islands and rocks and its complex coastline opens into several embayments and other lochs, the largest of which is Loch Langais. The settlement of Locheport lies on its southern short 2 miles (3 km) from its head.
