Mugdock Castle

A castle of Stirling, the ruins of Mugdock Castle can be found within the grounds of Mugdock Country Park. The first castle is believed to have been built in 1372, parts of which remain today, and was home to the Graham family until the mid 20th Century. The most famous resident was James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose, leader of the Covenanters. Located on a rocky promontory, the castle lies on high ground overlooking the Blane valley, the Allander valley, the Kilpatrick Hills and the Campsies. To the north and west of the castle lies Mugdock Loch.
