A headland of Fife Council Area, Tentsmuir Point lies on the southern shore of the Firth of Tay, 3 miles (5 km) east of Tayport and directly north of the Tentsmuir Forest and a nature reserve. It is the focal point of a 1043-ha (2577-acre) National Nature Reserve which is an important roosting and feeding area for huge concentrations of seaduck, waders and wildfowl as well as a haul-out area for over 2000 common and grey seals. To the west, east and south lie the Tentsmuir Sands.
