Bennane Head

The headland of Bennane Head extends into the Firth of Clyde at the northern end of Ballantrae Bay, 11 miles (17 km) southwest of the settlement of Girvan in South Ayrshire. The A77 trunk road now runs behind the headland, although it once extended along the shore and climbed to the present road immediately to the north. Bennane Cave is located just to the south of the headland, while the cannibal Sawney Bean lived in another cave nearby with his family in the 16th C.
