Kinnaird Head

A notable headland and landmark on the Moray Firth coast of Aberdeenshire, Kinnaird Head forms a peninsula extending into the sea at Fraserburgh. It is noted for its lighthouses, the older of which was built on an existing 16th C. castle and now forms the principal exhibit of the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses. Its younger replacement was commissioned in 1990.

Kinnaird Head is said to have been the Promontorium Taixalium, referred to by the Egyptian geographer Ptolemy around 140 AD, so clearly it has been an important point of navigation for many centuries.
