Scar Island is a little islet located close to the shore at the northern end of Mochrum Loch in Dumfries and Galloway, a half-mile (0.8 km) southwest of the Old Place of Mochrum. The name derives from the name for a cormorant; 'scarbh' (Gaelic) or 'skarfr' (Old Norse), and a breeding colony of these birds it still to be found on the loch.
