The ruined remains of Glenbuchat Castle stands near the junction of the Water of Buchat and the River Don, 4 miles (6 km) northeast of the village of Strathdon in Aberdeenshire. Built by John Gordon in 1590, it is a random rubble structure in a Z-shape with four turrets. It was owned by the Gordons until 1738, when it was forfeited by John Gordon for his Jacobite sympathies. In ruins since the roof was removed in 1840, it has been in the ownership of the state since 1948 and is managed by Historic Environment Scotland.
