Tolquhon Castle

Tolquhon Castle is located 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of the village of Pitmedden in Aberdeenshire and was built by the Forbes family who started with the tower in 1420. Extensions built in the period 1584-89 and built for the owner, William Forbes, considerably developed the castle. However by the end of the 19th Century the roof had collapsed and it had been left to ruin. It has been subsequently been acquired by Historic Environment Scotland who undertake its maintenance.
