Beinn Bhuidhe

An extensive plateau with steep scarp slopes to the west, north and east, Beinn Bhuidhe forms a distinctive platform at the centre of the northern lobe of the island of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides. It is formed of basalt lava erupted in the early Tertiary (Paleocene) period, of 60 million years ago, and associated with the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. Beinn Bhuidhe reaches 340m (1115 feet) at Sgorr an Fharaidh on its western edge and there is an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar on a nameless summit, a half-mile (1 km) to the north northwest, which reaches 336m (1102 feet).
