(Saughton Prison)

HM Prison Edinburgh houses prisoners sentenced in the areas of Lothian and Borders and Fife. Holding an average of 640 male prisoners ranging from adults and young offenders on remand, the prison also provides a facility in Pentland Hall for prisoners at the end of the long-term system and a Training for Freedom unit. A new visitor's reception centre incorporating cafe, toilets and childrens play facilities was opened in 2000.
