A museum of golf history in St. Andrews, the 'home of golf', the British Golf Museum is situated on the West Sands next to the Old Course and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Opened in 1996, it traces the 500-year history of the game using multi-media visual and touch screen displays. Galleries also trace the history of the Open Championship and display unusual golf clubs. The museum reopened in 2015, having been rebuilt by architect Richard Murphy to increase its prominence and provide a first-floor cafe with views west over the first tee of the Old Course.
