Glover House

(Braehead House)

Glover House is located on Balgownie Road in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen City and was home to the Glover family and, in particular, Thomas Blake Glover (1838 - 1911). Known as the Scottish Samurai, Glover is generally regarded as the man responsible for the industrialisation of Japan, including the creation of its ship-building industry and the formation of the Mitsubishi Corporation. Braehead Cottage was built in 1850 and remodelled to form a villa, known as Braehead House, in 1863. The house was given in trust by Mitsubishi in 1997 and has been restored to its 19th century appearance with many original details and features. A memorial plaque to Glover was unveiled on the front wall in 2006.

The house is owned by the Grampian Japan Trust and, since 2006, has been managed by Aberdeen City Council.
