Described as the 'tallest and most complex piece of early Mediaeval sculpture in Scotland', Sueno's Stone is an immense Pictish cross-slab standing over 6.4m (21 feet) high on the northeasterly edge of Forres in Moray, on the Forres to Kinloss road. Possibly built to commemorate a heroic battle between the men of Moray and the Norse, this 7.6 tonne slab of sandstone was probably brought inland from the coast to its present site. On its west face is carved a highly decorated cross, and on its east face four panels depict foot soldiers and horsemen in action. The stone is now protected by an enormous glass case.
