Granny Kempock's Stone

Located within Gourock, Renfrewshire, Granny Kempock's Stone is so called because of its resemblance to an old woman. Standing on the hill above Kempock Point, a headland on the Firth of Clyde, it was a regarded as a talisman to sailors as well as to newlyweds. It was also associated with witchcraft, in 1662 a group of women were burned to death here having been suspected of involvement in the occult.
