Hill of Foudland

A hill in Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire, the Hill of Foudland rises to 467m (1531 feet) 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Huntly. Its steep southeast-facing slopes are known as the Skirts of Foudland. the hill is pock-marked by slate quarries, an industry that peaked in the 1830s, when some 800,000 to 900,000 slates were produced each year, but which was in decline by the late 19th century. To the north the Glen Water flows through the Glens of Foudland.
