Fala Moor


(Fala Flow)

An area of upland blanket bog lying in the shadow of the Moorfoot Hills on the southern boundary of Midlothian, Fala Moor (or Fala Flow) is centred 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of Soutra and 2 miles (3 km) south southwest of Fala. The Fala Flow Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is an internationally important wetland which supports a significant pink-footed goose roost during the winter. Designated in 1986, the SSSI is also classified as a Ramsar site and a Special Protection Area (SPA). It extends to 323 ha (798 acres). Fala Flow Loch lies in the middle of the area.
