Beinn Slioch

A mountain situate to the east of Loch Maree in Wester Ross, Slioch rises to a height of 981m (3219 feet) 4 miles (6.5 km) north of Kinlochewe. It is classified as a Munro and there is an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar at its summit. Composed of sandstone, it appears like a huge castle above its gneiss foundations. The southeast is the only side where ascent is possible, the rest being barricaded by sandstone buttresses. Its name originates from the Gaelic word "sleagh" and means "a spear".
