River Garry and the Pass of Killiecrankie

A narrowing at the southern end of Glen Garry in North-Central Perth and Kinross, the Pass of Killiecrankie lies between Pitlochry and Blair Atholl. The River Garry, main-line railway, the A9 Trunk Road and a local road run closely bunched through the pass. The pass lies at approximately 140m (459 feet) and the land rises steeply on both sides, but particularly towards Ben Vrackie (841m / 2758 feet) in the east.

Killiecrankie village lies at the north of the pass with the battlefield beyond, where a Jacobite army defeated government forces in 1689. Just below the village is the Soldier's Leap, where an escaping government soldier is said to have jumped across the ravine to safety.
