HM Prison Noranside

HM Prison Noranside is an open prison situated 7 miles (11 km) north of Forfar in Angus and a similar distance northeast of Kirriemuir. Housing over 135 category D prisoners, serving time from 18 months to life, the prison and regime are designed to facilitate the prisoners reintegration into society.

Formerly a sanatorium, Noranside became a borstal in 1963 before entering service as an adult prison. It comprises four wings (A to D), together with an independent living unit (Alba and Cameron Houses). Noranside is now run alongside HM Prison Castle Huntly under a single governor.
