Ben More Assynt

Often climbed in conjunction with Conival, Ben More Assynt rises to a height of 998m (3274 feet) east of Lochinver in the Assynt district of W Sutherland. This mountain qualifies as a Munro and its summit consists of two tops. The northern top which is the true summit, is littered with broken quartzite blocks. Its name is derived from the Gaelic for "great mountain of Assynt", which is appropriate given that it is the highest peak in the Assynt area, and indeed in Sutherland.
