The Hopes Reservoir is a small reservoir of East Lothian, located a half-mile (1 km) to the east of Lammer Law and 4 miles (6 km) south of Gifford. The Hopes Water passes through the reservoir as it flows northward. The embankment dam wall was built using the rubble from Calton Jail in Edinburgh when it was demolished in 1930 to make way for St. Andrew's House. Opened in 1933, the reservoir is now operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water and covers an area of 16.5 ha (40 acres). It is also stocked with brown trout and is popular with anglers.
