Located on the Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles, the hill of Muirneag (or Muirnag) stands proud of the moorland 6 miles (9 km) west of Tolsta Head. It has two summits; the higher eastern summit reaches a height of 248m (813 feet) and is marked by an Ordnance Survey primary triangulation pillar installed in 1950. The western summit rises to 241m / 790 feet.
