Part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Queenside Muir is the name of an expanse of moorland located 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Largs. Located within the northern parts of North Ayrshire and Renfrewshire Council Areas, the moorland includes the Queenside Loch and Queenside Hill. A significant Barytes mine operated here between c.1850 and 1969, with total production estimated at 300,000 tonnes of this mineral, which was used as a white pigment in paint, and in the manufacture of paper, porcelain, textiles, leather and linoleum. The area is now protected as part of the Renfrewshire Heights Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Protection Area (SPA).
