Bristo

A small district of S Central Edinburgh, Bristo lies a half-mile (1 km) south of the city centre. Today comprising three small streets (Bristo Place, Bristo Street and Bristo Port), together with Bristo Square (dating from 1983), the name first appeared in the early 16th century, later separated from the city to the north by the Flodden Wall. Bristo Baptist Church, which was founded in 1765, is the second oldest Baptist Church in Scotland. It had premises in Bristo Place for almost 100 years until it relocated to Queensferry Road in the northwest of the city in 1935.
