The Bield

A location in the Tweeddale district of the Scottish Borders, The Bield lies between The Crook Inn and Tweedsmuir in the valley of the River Tweed. It was the site of an inn and in the late 17th Century the Covenanters planned to capture Graham of Claverhouse here. On a hill nearby is the site of Oliver castle, a former stronghold of the Frasers.
