Tealing Parish Church

Located in the hamlet of Kirkton of Tealing, 4 miles (6.5 km) north of Dundee, the former Tealing Parish Church was built in 1806 on the site of a mediaeval sacrament house which had been demolished. A church is said to have been first erected on this site by St. Boniface in the 7th century and was dedicated to St. Peter, but does not appear in the records until the 12th century.

Inside are a stone grave-slab dating to 1380 which was removed from the walls of the mediaeval church and a high relief mural monument of 1618. A variety of symbol-stones were discovered on the site, some of which are now displayed in the Dundee Museum.

The Rev. John Glass (1695 - 1773), founder of the Glassite movement, was minister of Tealing from 1719 until he was deposed from the Ministry of the Church of Scotland in 1728 for advocating that congregations and their elders were subject to no jurisdiction other than that of Jesus Christ.
