Onthank

A deprived public housing estate in Kilmarnock (East Ayrshire), Onthank lies a mile (1.6 km) north of the town centre. The name was originally associated with the farms of Toponthank, South Onthank and Little Onthank, with housing developed by the local authority in the 1950s. The area featured in the controversial BBC television series The Scheme (2010), which concentrated on drug addicts, alcoholism and violence, much to the consternation of local residents. Onthank benefits from both a primary school and a secondary school.
