Holmes Summit

Holmes Summit represents the highest point on the Airdrie-Bathgate Railway, rising to 200m (656 feet) at the eastern end of Hillend Reservoir in North Lanarkshire, a short distance west of Forrestfield and the border with West Lothian. The Summit is named in memory of Derek Holmes (1959 - 2010), Operations Director with Network Rail and Chairman of the Institution of Rail Operators, who died shortly before the line was completed.
