Gigha and Cara Parish Church

Representing the only working church on the island of Gigha in the Inner Hebrides, Gigha and Cara Parish Church is situated in Ardminish, the island's only significant settlement. It was built in 1924 in the Romanesque style by Glasgow-based architect John Jeffrey Waddell (1876 - 1941). The building is T-plan, but with the northern wing forming the vestry. The interior is large, but quite plain, with no gallery. The stone font is Mediaeval and came from the now-ruined St. Catan's Chapel. There is much stained glass, including The Crucified Christ, with Mary and John (1924) by the studio of Stephen Adam (1848 - 1910), together with examples by William Wilson and Gordon Webster, including memorials to members of the MacNeill family, who were Lairds of Gigha almost continuously from 1449 until the 1880s.
