Walker Dam

A small former reservoir on the course of the Holburn in the Craigiebuckler district of Aberdeen, Walker Dam is located to the south of Woodburn Gardens, 2½ miles (4 km) west of the city centre. Managed by Aberdeen City Council Ranger Service, the dam supports birdlife and the surrounding area is now parkland. The name probably derives from the Gaelic uachdar, meaning 'upper', and the dam was most-likely built to provide water for the city's mills and the bleachworks at Rubislaw.
