Mains Burn

A stream which rises in the vicinity of Williamcraigs Farm to the southwest of Linlithgow in West Lothian, the Mains Burn flows north into Preston Glen where is receives the Preston Burn and then onwards into a tunnel under the road which goes under the Dark Brig that carries the Union Canal. It flows on through the western suburbs of Linlithgow - often in culverts - under the Edinburgh-Glasgow railway and then on through Linlithgow Bridge and under the M9 motorway, to fall into the River Avon at Little Mill, having completed a course of 2¼ miles (3.6 km). Another Mains Burn rises 1½ miles (2.5 km) east southeast of the source of this one.
