Formed from a substantial Georgian villa, on the northern boundary of West Lothian, Bonsyde House Hotel is situated on the eastern slopes of Airngath Hill, between Bonnytoun and Bonhard, a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Linlithgow. The white-rendered classical-style house dates from the early 19th C. and features a porch with tetrastyle pilasters. Bonsyde House has been greatly extended over the years. This was the home of the noted oceanographer Sir Charles Wyville Thomson, who was born here in 1830 and died here in 1882. The house has operated as a country house hotel for many years, previously known as the Earl of Moray Hotel and the Allanvale Hotel.
A row of two- and three-bedroom architect-designed holiday homes, known as Linlithgow Cottages, were built behind the hotel in 2004-06.
