The most southerly of four pumping stations on the landward section of the Forties Pipeline System (FPS) which transports an oil-gas mixture from the North Sea to Kinneil Terminal near Grangemouth, Balbeggie Booster Station lies a half-mile (1 km) south of Kinrossie and 1½ miles (2.5 km) northeast of Balbeggie in Perth and Kinross. Opened in 1975, the FPS was built by energy multi-national BP but is now owned and operated by chemicals giant INEOS. It represents the largest offshore oil-gathering network in the world, with a capacity of more than one million barrels of oil per day, representing around 40% of the total UK oil production. The other pumping stations are at Cruden Bay, Netherley and Brechin.
