Craigmillar Hill

(Craigmillar Castle Hill)

A partially wooded summit within the City of Edinburgh, Craigmillar Hill (occasionally Craigmillar Castle Hill) rises to approximately 91m (298 feet) 2½ miles (4 km) southeast of the city centre. The ruined Craigmillar Castle is located close to the summit, which gives fine views of Arthur's Seat to the north, the Pentland Hills to the southwest and the Moorfoot Hills to the southeast. The hill now lies within Craigmillar Castle Jubilee Park and is surrounded by woodland together with small quarries that exploited sandstone of the Kinnesswood Formation, deposited some 365 million years ago.
