Kelburn Wind Farm

Situated within the rolling Dalry Hills, the Kelburn Wind Farm lies 2¼ miles (3.5 km) east of Fairlie in North Ayrshire. It comprises fourteen Vestas V80 turbines, each producing 2 megawatts (MW) of power, giving a total generation capacity for the site of 28 MW. Each turbine has a blade diameter of 80m (262 feet) and is mounted on a 60-m (196-foot) high tower. Construction began in 2010 and the farm was commissioned in 2012. Developed on the Kelburn Estate, it is owned and operated by Hertfordshire-based Renewable Energy Systems (RES) Ltd. The farm was officially opened on 10th August 2012 by landowner Patrick Boyle, 10th Earl of Glasgow, and Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Jane Evans. Kelburn Wind Farm Community Fund supports community-based projects within the local areas of Largs, Fairlie, Great and Little Cumbrae, distributing approximately £44,000 annually for the 25-year operational lifetime of the wind farm.

The site is open to the public, and walkers are able to make use of the new car park at the site entrance. There is an education centre for schools and interest groups, while there are several way-marked walking routes through the site. Wardlaw Wood Wind Farm lies immediately to the southeast.
