Located within the Dalry Hills, Wardlaw Wood Wind Farm is situated 2¾ miles (4.5 km) northwest of Dalry in North Ayrshire. Six Vestas V90 turbines are arranged over the western slopes of Baidland Hill, each generating 3 megawatts (MW) of power, giving a total generation capacity for the site of 18 MW. Also known as Dalry Community Wind Farm, this was one of the first wind farms in the UK to use large 3 MW turbines, each with a blade diameter of 90m (295 feet). Each turbine is mounted on a 80-m (262-foot) high tower, giving a total height to blade tip of 125m (410 feet), secured on a reinforced concrete foundation. The farm was commissioned in 2006 and is operated by Bristol-based Wind Prospect. It was designed and built by contractors R.J. McLeod, who were also responsible for the construction of an electrical control building, together with 2 miles (3 km) of access roads using locally-extracted rock as hardcore. The farm provides significant financial benefit to a range of local community-based projects.
Kelburn Wind Farm lies immediately to the northwest and Millour Hill Wind Farm to the east.
