Westerwood

A residential district on the periphery of Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire, Westerwood lies 1¼ miles (2 km) north of the town centre. It takes its name from a 19th C. farmstead. There was once a fort here, associated with the Antonine Wall. The street names follow the scheme used in Carrickstone to the south; namely golf courses (Barassie, Gullane, King's, Ladybank, Queen's, Rosemount and Troon, which are all in Scotland, together with Birkdale after the Royal Birkdale course in NW England). Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort opened in 1989 to the northeast.
