A modest summit in the W of Galloway, Birrel Hill rises to 119m (390 feet) immediately to the north of Knock Orr, 3¾ miles (6 km) east northeast of Glenluce. Birrel Hill is part of an extensive drumlin field, deposited beneath an ancient glacier.
