The Loch

A small artificial water body surrounded by trees situated within Heriot-Watt University campus at Riccarton, 5½ miles (9 km) southwest if the centre of Edinburgh. The Loch was created in the later 19th century, on the course of a stream which is a tributary of the Murray Burn, to improve the policies of Riccarton House, then home of the Gibson-Craig family. It is now overlooked by student residences.
