Lying between Ferry Road in Edinburgh and Granton and West Pilton on the south shore of the Firth of Forth is the public housing estate of East Pilton. Laid out in 1930 as part of Edinburgh's plan to clear slums from the Old Town and provide the tenants with modern housing, the estate comprises two and three-storey flats. It has long been regarded as offering a better quality-of-life than its more modern sister estate of West Pilton, due to the effective provision of shops and other social facilities.
