Southpark Village

(South Park Village)

A suburban settlement comprising a private housing development built in the 1990s on the green-belt of SW Glasgow, Southpark (or South Park) Village lies between the Brock Burn and the M77 motorway, 1½ miles (2.5 km) east of Barrhead. The area once formed part of the policies of Darnley House and were occupied by rifle ranges towards the end of the 19th C. Private detached and semi-detached houses were developed along neat curving streets from the late-1980s and extended to the southeast in the 2010s. Communal landscaping is maintained through the financial contributions of the residents.

The former Darnley Lime Works lay immediately to the northwest and the route of an old mineral railway, associated with these works, passes to the west. A tramway, also associated with the lime works, passed to the north, where there is now a Sainsbury's superstore.
