Carmyle Railway Station

(Cair Maol)

A two-platform suburban halt in Glasgow City, Carmyle Railway Station (Gael: Cair Maol) lies on the Whifflet Line, to the north of Carmyle and a half-mile (1 km) southwest of Mount Vernon. This station opened in 1866 on the Rutherglen & Coatbridge Railway. The station closed with the line in 1966 as a result of Dr. Beeching's rationalisation of the railways, but a new station was built in 1993 to serve a revitalised line. Operated by ScotRail, Carmyle Railway Station is unstaffed and is used by 155,484 passengers per annum (2016-17). It is preceded by Mount Vernon Railway Station, a mile (1.5 km) to the east northeast, and followed by Glasgow Central, 4½ miles (7 km) to the west northwest.
