Slateford Railway Station

(Àth na Sglèata)

Slateford Railway Station (referred to as Àth na Sglèata in Gaelic) is a suburban halt on the West Coast Main Line in the City of Edinburgh. It occupies an elevated position, a half-mile (1 km) east southeast of Stenhouse and 2¾ miles (4.5 km) southwest of the city centre. This station was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1853 and comprises two platforms. Now operated by ScotRail, Slateford is served by local trains which link Edinburgh with Glasgow Central via Shotts (the Shotts Line). The station is unstaffed and used by around 33,000 passengers per annum (2015). It is preceded by Haymarket Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the northeast, and followed by Kingsknowe, a mile (1.5 km) to the west southwest.
