One of two railway stations which serve the little village of Tyndrum, Upper Tyndrum (Gael: Taigh an Droma Uachdrach) lies on the West Highland Line, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) east southeast of the village centre in Stirling Council Area. It is located on the valley side at an altitude of approximately 275m (900 feet), around 50m (160 feet) higher than the village centre. This station opened with the West Highland Railway in 1894, and comprises picturesque buildings on an island platform that serves the line and a passing loop. It is preceded by Crianlarich Railway Station, 4½ miles (7 km) to the southeast, and followed by Bridge of Orchy, 6 miles (10 km) to the north northwest. Operated by ScotRail, Upper Tyndrum Railway Station is unstaffed and receives fewer train services than Tyndrum Lower. It was therefore used by only around 4500 passengers in 2015.
